Mintcello Estate
Mintcello is a gorgeous Tuscan estate here in Malibu, set behind its own gate, driveway, and motor court. The house holds 3 en-suite bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a multipurpose lounge room that sleeps two, a laundry room, a full bar, and a large chef's kitchen that opens to sunlit terraces; the ocean is visible from the kitchen, the bedrooms, and the patios. Level yards connect across the site through landscaped paths, enclosed courtyards, and covered patios, so the indoors and the outdoors read as one floor plan. The grounds hold pads for a future pool and jacuzzi, a flat pad with its own access, and a third independent building pad. The site is pre-irrigated, and its best slopes were left for a vineyard or an orchard.
Created by Apel Design, the estate spans 4.5 acres with whitewater views of the Malibu Pacific: an Italian countryside villa that happens to sit 10 to 15 minutes from the PCH and the 101.
Every part of the house was made as one work: mosaic installations, hand-carved exterior fountains, copper shelving, custom vanities, sculptural light fixtures, and original sculptures, each built from natural, locally sourced materials. The result is a piece of art that functions as a home.
The Sunset Room, the Sunrise Room, and the Horizon Room are aimed at the hours Malibu does best. The flat acreage on the lower lot leaves room for plenty of parking, with an option to valet up the driveway or take the stairs along the hillside.
